The Next Thing Moving Image Award is now open for submissions. Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre is inviting recent graduates of UK fine art courses and alternative art school students whose practice has a focus towards moving image to enter this exciting opportunity.

Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre’s moving image award is now in its fifth year and we would like to invite recent graduates of UK fine art courses and alternative art school students whose practise has a focus toward moving image to enter this exhibition opportunity. The aim is to discover the best video/film/moving image artists emerging from UK art schools, and offer them a high quality professional development opportunity.

The ten most promising artists discovered through the submission process will be given the chance to showcase their work in the Moving Image Gallery from 30 November 2021 to 22 January 2022. The overall winner will be awarded £250 in order to aid the creation of future works.

Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre is committed to investing in the next generation of Moving Image artists. Since its inception, in 2013, our Moving Image Gallery has showcased works from emerging and established artists such as Juntae T.J. Hwang, Rachel Maclean, Mark Leckey, Sejla Kameric, David Blandy & Larry Achiampong, Aslan Gaisumov.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for this opportunity if you graduated or are graduating at BA, MA or PhD or have attended an alternative art school in the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. Artwork must have a fine art practice orientation.

Submitting an application

Please send work that best represents your practice. Please remember to label image and file names. We are acception one work from each person, single channel, lasting no more than 20 minutes. You will be asked to submit an artist’s statement (500 words maximum). This statement should include information about your artistic practice and describe the work you have submitted as part of your application. We are also happy to accept all detailed written information as a video or voice recorded format.


Complete with your contact details and outlining the title, media, date, and format of each of the artworks you are submitting (including any specific technical or display requirements of the work). Successful applicants will then be asked to send the curator a link to download the video via WeTransfer, Dropbox etc.

If you have not had a response from us by 23 November please assume your application has not been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Tuesday to Friday 10:00-17:00 and Saturday 10:00 -16:30.
