The Airspace residency programme seeks to engage, enable and support two new visual artists with targeted professional development and creative time out at a fledgling stage of their careers.

Applications will be judged by a panel of artists, Sarah Lucas; Barbican Curator, Lotte Johnson; and Founder Director of Raven Row, London, Alex Sainsbury.

The selected artists will be offered a six-month residency with freedom, flexibility and zero fixed outcomes.

Resident artists will receive:

  • Shared exclusive use of our new, dedicated Airspace studio, a repurposed 20ft shipping container
  • A bespoke programme of critical engagement and artistic development with Caroline Wright, artist and academic tutor specialising in professional practice
  • Mentoring sessions with curator Rebecca May Marston
  • Tours and talks with local institution directors, including The Red House’s Ella Roberts; SPILL Festival’s Robin Deacon; Original Projects’ Kaavous Clayton; 303 Projects’ Alex Costello
  • Studio visits and talks with artist,s including Abigail Lane, Anna Ilsley, Emily Richardson, Karen Densham and Ryan Gander
  • Warm, welcoming access and integration to the creative community at Old Jet studios, which includes a wide mix of celebrated, award-winning practitioners, including visual artists, musicians, authors, photographers, creative directors, and marketing and press experts.


We welcome applications from all early career artists and will seek to support any barriers you may face in accessing this residency, including disabilities, access to our remote rural location, accommodation and finance.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
We welcome applications from all early career artists who are over 18 and have a BA or equivalent experience.
When is the deadline?
Sunday the 15th February at midnight.
When is the delivery date?
Programme delivery is between March and August 2026.
How much does it cost?
There are no fees for applying or taking part in the programme.
Are there payments to artists?
Whilst there are no payments to artists, we will seek to support any barriers you may face in accessing this residency, including disabilities, access to our remote rural location, accommodation and finance.
Do I need to be present?
Yes, to maximise the opportunities of the residency, you will need to present at Old Jet for as much time as you can afford. We will, however, tailor the residency to be flexible around other commitments you may have.

Applications will be judged on quality of work.
