After two years of closure for a multimillion pound renovation, The Old Town Hall invites submissions for its fifth annual Open Exhibition. The exhibition will launch the dedicated gallery space and will begin an exciting new chapter for the visual arts in this glorious heritage building.

During its closure over the past two years, the building has been beautifully renovated and now includes a new dedicated gallery space. 

Artists at all stages of their careers, working in any contemporary art media, are invited to submit work for this first exhibition.

Benefits:

First Prize - £450 commission to create the cover of the January edition of Celebrate, the Trowbridge Community Paper.

Tech Office People’s Choice Prize - 500 postcards sponsored by Tech Office.

 Work may be available for sale or not. The Old Town Hall collects 30% commission on sales

Criteria

  • Any fine art medium

  • Digital work must be supplied with appropriate display equipment which must to be PAT tested.

  • There are no geographical restrictions.

  • Work must be original and have been produced in the last 2 years.

  • Entries are restricted to 3 submissions per artist

  • Selected works must be delivered ready for hanging or display. e.g. framed with D rings 10cm from the top of the frame.

I understand that Trowbridge Town Hall will collect 30% commission on any works sold.

About the selectors

Proffesor Anita Taylor is an artist, the founder of the preeminent open call-out Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design at the University of Dundee and director of Drawing Projects UK based at Bridge House in Trowbridge.

Tom Maddicott is the new CEO of The Old Town Hall. He has over 25 years of experience in live event curation, management, and venue operations in the music industry and has worked with many major artists. He is committed to developing a quality visual arts programme that supports and inspires artistic communities.

Fiona Cassidy is a freelance curator. She has curated over 70 exhibitions, including eight Opens, during her career working in arts centres and galleries in the South West of England. She also runs Found Outdoors CIC, an art, education and wellbeing venue set on a woodland rewilding project in Wiltshire.

The Old Town Hall reserves the right to retain and use images from work submitted for press and publicity purposes.

Please note that whilst every effort will be made to observe special display requirements, the Old Town Hall will make the final decision on how selected works are shown.
