OPEN CALL 📰🗞️ Hello! I would like to create a newspaper to be in my ‘Salty Crisp’ Pub installation, which will be exhibited in February 2025 at 44AD artspace, Bath, UK.

I am looking for pieces of writing about crisps, pubs, community and how it all connects.

I’m so excited for your submissions and looking forward to reading your thoughts and feelings on crisps and pubs! :) The deadline for submissions is the 25/07/2024

These pieces of writing will be formatted and printed into a newspaper style publication, designed and illustrated by me (Milly Aburrow) - this newspaper will be available to read at my show 'The Salty Crisp' at 44AD artspace, a gallery in Bath - in February 2025.

I'm currently fabricating my solo show - where I am transforming the space into a pub, highlighting the iconic British snack - crisps.

I'm aiming to create a space inclusive of community. I'm hoping to collate stories about pubs and crisps that the audience can relate to and that unite people with the humble crisp.

Accepted writing/articles/poems will be published and exhibited for people to read and enjoy.

Contributors will be sent a copy for free :)

I'm also going to look and hopefully get it stocked in some local bookshops :)

About the curator:

Milly Aburrow (b.2001, Chichester, UK) is a 2023 graduate of Bath Spa University, completing a BA in Fine Art (Hons).

Through a playful colour palette and a comical stylisation, her work characterises the parameters of commercialisation, consumerist society, and particularly our contemporary food culture that defines a part of everyone's life.

Depicted through mixed media sculpture (materials and techniques dependent on the subject) and installation, she explores food's social commentary, whether it associates with certain symbolisation, power, memory or societal acceptance.

Aburrow’ was the recipient of the 'Kenneth Armitage Young Sculpture Prize 2023' for her degree show installation 'Fill Me In' Sandwich Counter.

Since she has exhibited in galleries across the UK and is a graduate resident at 44AD artspace, Bath, where she occupies her studio.

Previous Experience:

'Potluck', curated by Lilly Foster-Eardley, Daisy-Drew Smith and myself, spanned across the ground floor gallery  at 44AD artspace, showcasing the power of art to transcend boundaries and unite people from all walks of life.

By celebrating the strange, beautiful, and unconventional, the exhibition provided a platform for artists to freely express themselves and for audiences to experience the extraordinary.
