Trans Rights & Protest exhibition for Trans Pride, Brighton, UK

In April 2025, the UK Supreme Court made a controversial ruling, declaring that the terms "woman" and "sex" strictly refer to biological sex under the Equality Act 2010.

This landmark decision has led to the unwarranted exclusion of transgender women from single-sex spaces and sports, drastically affecting their rights and everyday experiences.

The ruling has ignited passionate protests across the UK.

In response, we invite you to join us in a powerful act of solidarity and remembrance.

The Socially Engaged Art Salon, in collaboration with Trans Pride Brighton, is organising a significant exhibition to honour the essential contributions of trans individuals to the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion.

This exhibition will run from mid-July to mid-August, featuring prominent locations in the heart of Brighton as well as an online platform.

The theme of the exhibition is PROTEST, and it is open to interpretation. It can be from trans people playing football to photos of demonstrations/self-portraiture to works depicting trans families and trans joy.

We are seeking impactful 2D artworks—whether photography, graphic design, or painting—from trans and non-binary artists and photographers.

Artists with a substantial body of work on this theme may be offered a mini-solo exhibition.

If desirable, indicate this and include a link to view more works.

Your artwork will be thoughtfully selected, printed in various sizes, and prominently displayed at the exhibition sites, amplifying your voice in this critical dialogue.

We welcome submissions from all trans and non-binary artists and photographers aged 18 and older, worldwide.

We especially urge Sussex-based artists and those from underrepresented communities, including BIPOC creators, artists with disabilities, and individuals from countries facing LGBTQ+ persecution or discrimination, to share their work.

Expenses

We will print the chosen works; therefore, printing costs, delivery and installation are covered by us.
