Within The Limitations is a FREE opportunity to showcase your work online and, in an exhibition, as long as your artwork fits within the boundaries of 12x12x0.5cm.

Ashford Visual Artists Announces Open Call for Artists to Submit Artwork for Within The Limitations Project Ashford Visual Artists is pleased to announce an open call for artists to submit artwork for the Within The Limitations project.  

The project was created by Gregory Daines in collaboration with Ashford Visual Artists to reuse several hundred CD cases following a series of art installations by Lorrain Mailer.

The project is open to all artists, regardless of experience or medium.  Artists are invited to submit any type of artwork, so long as it fits within the boundaries of 12 x 12 x 0.5cm. The artwork can be made from any material or combination of materials, including but not limited to:

• Paint

• Drawing

• Photography

• Collage

• Carving

• Mixed media

The deadline for submissions is February 14, 2024.

Selected artwork will be displayed in a digital exhibition at Ashford Visual Artists in Early 2024.

About Ashford Visual Artists:

AVA is an artist-led, voluntary organisation that aims to promote, encourage and enable visual arts in the Ashford Borough Area. The group is open to all professional artists.

Ashford Visual Artists provides its members with a supportive environment to share their work, learn from each other, and connect with the wider arts community. You can see Ashford Visual Artists every Saturday until December 16th at the gallery in Chartham Vineyard.

Gregory Daines is a visual artist, illustrator and printmaker based in Sevington, Ashford. His work is architectural in nature and employs the use of many complex papercuts and stencils.

Lorrain Mailer is a visual artist based in Sellindge, Ashford. Her work is inspired by the ways in which everyday objects can be transformed into works of art and is interested in the human condition. Mailer is known for her innovative use of materials and her ability to create works of art that are both visually stunning and thought-provoking.

We encourage all artists to submit their work to the Within The Limitations project.

This is a unique opportunity to showcase your work in a public exhibition and to contribute to a sustainable art project.

Selected images and artist's credits will go up on https://www.instagram.com/ashfordvisualartists/ from October 2023
Artworks (at your cost) will need to be delivered by post to Ashford Visual Artists, 1 Mill Cottage, Stone Hill, Sellindge TN25 6EW by 24th February 2024

What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Through Ashford Borough Council and Ashford Visual Artists social media and networks.

What is the selection criteria?
The artwork fits within the boundaries of 12 x 12 x 0.5cm and if selected for the exhibition that it can travel through the post.
