The Animal Artspace
The Animal Artspace is a new online space dedicated to showcasing contemporary animal art through virtual exhibitions and an artist directory. The space aims to celebrate the variety and abundance of animal art being created today, by artists at all levels and stages of their creative careers, working in any style.
Each virtual group exhibition will respond to a specific theme. Exhibitions will be live for a set period of time before being archived on our website, alongside a gradually increasing directory of animal artists. The directory is a resource for people who are looking for animal artwork or commissions to discover artists who specialist in this subject, or have work featuring animals within their portfolio.
The Animal Artspace is curated by Elizabeth de Broise, a visual artist specialising in realistic drawings of dogs. Elizabeth has 10 years experience as a pet portrait artist, and in recent years began creating her own pieces inspired by our relationship with dogs and the varying roles they play in society.
The experience of exhibiting her own works, often feeling as though her work didn’t quite fit in a conventional contemporary gallery, and not having enough physical work to show as she mostly works on commission (as many animal artists do), prompted Elizabeth to create a dedicated space for showcasing the work of artists who specialise in the subject of animals, without the need to have physical works available.

DOMESTIC Exhibition
Dates: 01/04/2025 — 30/04/2025 | Venue: Online
A virtual group exhibition of artwork featuring or inspired by the theme of domestic animals. “An animal, as the horse or cat, that has been tamed and kept by humans as a work animal, food source, or pet, esp. a member of those species that have, through selective breeding, become notably different from their wild ancestors” - Collins dictionary definition of domestic animal. In the first exhibition curated by the Animal Artspace, 76 artists shared 134 pieces of work in varying styles and media. This exhibition showcased not only a wide variety of artistic styles and ideas, but also shows the diverse range of animals that we welcome in and around our homes. The exhibition was marketed throughout April 2025, and the VR exhibition is still available to view via artsteps: https://www.artsteps.com/view/67ced284c9fda5a36847fbb3
