Amelia Baron: Obsession In Isolation, 2020

Obsession In Isolation is the development of Obsession for Perfection, 2018, and Obsession at the Asylum, 2019, in which Amelia engages in ritualist behaviours to visualise the obsessional traits within mental health issues.

Currently, the whole of the UK is in lockdown, increasing the difficulty of living out the normatives of quotidian customs. For those with underlying mental health problems, the sudden change in routines and social interactions are heavily impacting coping mechanisms and heightening anxieties. As well as this, the term “isolation” can recall past trauma, especially to individuals who have experienced long psychiatric admissions or isolation in other institutions. Obsession in Isolation hopes to address the obsessive and intrusive thoughts the current social lockdown is causing such individuals. By tracing the top of a medicinal prescription bottle onto the walls of her rented room, Amelia hopes to show support and solidarity to those in need whilst also keeping herself busy and safe during the uncertainty of the current climate.
