CuratorSpace Artist Bursary #12: Lola Awada

Lola Awada is a London-based multi-disciplinary artist creating across different media, including painting, sculpture, photography and photomontage. Her work is mostly inspired by the interconnectedness of everything with and within nature and explores spirituality, magic, fantasy and 'harsh realities'.

"My current project is called 'I dream', in response to recent events in my native Lebanon. It will consist of a series of photographic images (and possibly a very short movie) depicting a handmade model of a bed in a dream-like landscape setting. The photographic images will be shown alongside a poem which illustrates my hopes and wishes for all countries around the world suffering war or civil unrest. What follows is just one part of the poem."

I dream of a land where beds are safe and cosy
A land where beds are safe enough to dream in,
Cosy enough to snuggle in
Without the fear of never waking up.

I dream of a land where sleeping is not a dangerous activity
And where beds only fly to dreamlands
Always landing back safely
On lands where nothing burns.
