Featured artist: Norma Foulds
Norma Foulds works in a variety of media, including drawing, printmaking, and collage. She has just secured a residency at Fish Factory in Cornwall to continue her work and hopes to gain more support in return for rewards produced during the residency.
“I’ve been working solely as a freelance artist since 2016, but I completed my MA in Fine Art and Education in 2003, before working in schools full time as a teacher. My background in teaching gave me the confidence to develop my own practice and influenced the way that I often include others in my work.
For example, a recent project “Wonder - full” involved working collaboratively with other artists and patients at Clifton Hospital, Cleveleys, to produce a mobile memory cabinet. The project addressed ideas of grief, loss, and memory, all themes which are central to my practice.
Throughout my work I also use found objects, such as pebbles, collected from the coastline near where I live. These explorations of the coastline have developed into the project “Coastal Footings”. The residency at Fish Factory is a continuation of this project, and will enable me to compare and contrast my experience of the Lancashire coastline with that of Cornwall.
I intend to create prints, collages, or zones during my time there and am offering these as rewards for people who would like to contribute to the residency.”
