  Back to profiles

Alastair and Fleur Mackie are a British French-Cameroonian artist duo based in Cornwall. Working collaboratively, they create sculptural and photographic works rooted in the conditions of place and time. Their practice explores material histories and the interplay between ecology and human culture.

Alastair and Fleur Mackie’s practice involves the reorientation of materials through procedural, often minimal actions, working in continuity with the forces through which they exist. Their work engages the world as formed through overlapping ecological, geological, and human systems, allowing structure to emerge through its own logic. Landscape operates as a source condition, with elements returned to, or held in relation to, the places that produced them.

Underlying conditions come into focus. Materials are treated as active records of physical processes, carrying structural, chemical, and temporal information. Making is approached as a question of responsibility.
