    Currently, I am primarily interested in exploring human/nature discourses through a narrative practice that engages with objects (natural and human-made), representation, and employing a range of processes and means of making.     I’ve been trying to get to the root of why I paint what I paint, after much ruminating I think I’ve realised the different avenues my mind travels down. I’ve become more interested recently in a still life aspect to my work, looking at old toys and discarded objects and it’s the stories about the past, that I can almost see- just out of reach and stories are the main diet of my imagination.

    Layla Jabbari is a Hull-based illustrator working in print and mixed media, including animation and sculpture. Layla's work was shortlisted for the Flourish Awards for excellence in Printmaking and selected for Ones to Watch, Yorkshire 2024. Layla was longlisted for World Illustration Awards 2023 and is on the Artist Inter_change program at Humber Street Gallery Hull.

    I'm a new graduate of Fine Art working in pen and ink and I love to capture the little details of the world around me in Yorkshire. I've come to art after a career in archaeology, where observing and drawing the small details was an essential part of my role. These technical archaeological drawings form the foundation of my practice, inspiring me to look at the fine details around me.

    I am a teacher of Geography and until a few years ago I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I then discovered wood turning and the joy of shaping wood as if it was clay. I have rapidly moved away from traditional wood turning and like to use a variety of non-traditional wood and different materials that enhance the wood. I like form and shape inspired by nature.
