The main aspect of my work is the exploration of the personal and the collective unconscious through art, putting in its centre not the single human being but humanity as a whole. Dream interpretation is a key element of my creative process, which provides the basis for capturing the non-tangible.
In my paintings, shapes and negative space entwine resulting in layers to explore. These layers refer to the structure of the psyche, the conscious and unconscious, visible and non-visible. To tap into deeper levels, I use figurative abstraction to create an expressive and emotionally charged visual realm. The symbols I work with are based on primordial images which are existent since the dawn of mankind hence binding us all and taking us to a world where country is neither a geographical nor a political entity but rather the traditions, mythology, memories, thinking and feeling of its people. The biomorphic hieroglyphics I use are schematic and simplified forms which come from an ever-growing visual library I have built up over years of studies; supplemented by content related imagery taken from myths, traditional fairy tales and alchemical manuscripts. In ancient times dreams and visions were transferred into the collective consciousness through storytelling. Working with dreams persuaded me that an artist can be an intermediary between the archetypal world and the collective consciousness - painting can also function as storytelling. I am constantly looking for new ways of telling stories, creating a connection between the real and unseen world.
