  Back to profiles

I am a visual artist based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. My practice combines naturally beautiful, fragile glass with concrete, wood and metal to create a range of sculptural and wall based work. Much of my work reflects issues surrounding people and place such as memory, history and human connection. My work ranges from public art to private commissions and community projects.

Alex Blakey is a visual artist working from her studio in Meltham. She works predominantly in glass but regularly chooses to explore a variety of different media often combining them to create interesting new works of art.

Alex's practice is informed by memory, people and place. She focuses on the human connection to both place and each other considering issues such as memory, connectivity, history and the human mind. Her work takes many forms from gallery work to public art. Much of her public art work is site specific and references aspects of local heritage and culture. She take a collaborative approach to much of her practice choosing to work closely with local communities and individuals in the development of a piece.

Alex is passionate about working with people and the importance of art in well being and society as a whole. She regularly works with local community groups developing projects that aid both well-being and connectivity. She has worked on a number of different arts and health and inter-generational projects encouraging discussion and co production of new work. She is also passionate about the role art can play in connecting people to places.

Alex exhibits her work in private galleries throughout the UK as well as at larger shows and events.
