I am an international artist based in Leeds and Hyderabad. I make blue textile batik pieces and animations. Through my practice, I study the interaction of different shades of blue with each other. I make use of the laborious processes of batik and animation to make carefully curated decisions about the colours (specifically blue) used in my work.

I am an artist whose practice currently involves making blue batik pieces and animation. By making entirely blue work, I study the interactions between different blues in my work. I use the time spent during the laborious processes of batik and animation to make calculated decisions about the different blues being used. Blue serves as a material and a medium for my work. I attempt to create blue spaces with installations where the interactions of different blues can be appreciated through the intricate processes of batik and animation. My approach draws on Citra Sasmita’s reinterpretation of traditional Kamasan painting. I make use of traditional methods of creating batik and experiment with the wax making process. Derek Jarman and Maggie Nelson’s writing on the colour helped me understand blue as a pure colour. I also interpret traditional patterns from ancient architecture of the Jaipur and Udaipur cities.
