    I am a teacher of Geography and until a few years ago I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I then discovered wood turning and the joy of shaping wood as if it was clay. I have rapidly moved away from traditional wood turning and like to use a variety of non-traditional wood and different materials that enhance the wood. I like form and shape inspired by nature.

    I resumed making sculpture in 2014 and have since shown sculpture, audio visual pieces and drawing. I am interested in the experiences of new, older artists returning or starting to make art that takes into account contemporary practices. I make constructions that are material and tangible and whose component forms often have a direct relation to the features of the gallery or site.

    I am a mixed media and installation artist dedicated to externalizing the internal. My practice translates complex emotions and fleeting thoughts into tangible forms through the fusion of text and abstraction.     David Ian Bickley is an award-winning media artist whose body of work spans the primitive technological of the 1970’s to the digital cutting edge of today. His media work has manifested as television, installation, electronic music and video art.     After an initial career as a Systems Analyst, I studied Visual Arts (Salford University), 2004, then an M.A. in Textiles/Fashion (Manchester Metropolitan University) 2005. My studio is at Rogue Artists’ Studios CIC, Manchester. I am a member of the artist collective , A Small Space. My project ‘We View Things Differently Now' was ACE DYCP funded in 2021. My work has been exhibited widely.

    I am a sculptor whose work investigates identity and the way we portray this in the world through the forms of our clothing and our architecture. Both are seen as metaphors for the body and for human experience. I have been investigating this relationship for 20 years. I work mainly for exhibition or in residency and have a studio in my local town of Stourbridge, in the West Midlands.
