Inspired by rural and coastal landscapes, making en plein air drawings capturing a sense of place. Landscapes comprise layers containing human and non-human traces and natural phenomena. I transition images in a variety of media, by printmaking, drawing, painting and artists’ books. I curate Foxlowe Arts Centre café in Leek. I hold a BA and MFA in fine art, exhibit, research and run workshops.

I exhibit, curate, research and run workshops. My inspirations arise from the landscape. I have lived in the Peak District for half of my life and feel hefted to its gritstone escarpments. These are deep in my memory. My compositions are often of remembered views. My practice is founded on en plein air mark making and drawing in my local environs as well as further afield in coastal areas, including the Hebrides. I usually start with walking, sometimes long multi-day journeys. I am interested in trying to reveal layers and traces in the landscape – left by humans, non-humans and natural phenomena, over huge periods of time. I enjoy the way that the materials that I use inform the transformation of my visual language and my mark making. Other sources of inspiration are the work of other artists, particularly expressionist printmakers. From drawings that I make in the field, or the gallery, I develop mixed media paintings and prints. My printmaking includes, dry point, relief, collagraph, screen and letterpress. I sometimes resolve my ideas through making artists’ books. During my earlier career in higher education, I co-designed and delivered a postgraduate curriculum on conceptual design for a combined group of fine art and civil engineering students. I retrained with a BA and MFA in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University. Drawing on experience gained during my earlier career I run workshops on mark making in the landscape and printmaking, using letterpress. I curate Foxlowe Arts Centre Café, in Leek, which involves the recruitment and selection of local and national artists.
