    Hi My name is Tony Cooney i’m based in Stockton on Tees. I’m a self taught artist and work predominantly in Oul Pastels on paper. I also like to use recycled cardboard such as old Amazon envelopes and the outer hardbacks of artist pads. I also work in charcoal and oil/acrylics.

    My work explores, identity, space and belonging through memory and migration. I specialise with analogue film and photography, combining this with digital mediums to create layered pieces of artwork. I have a special interest in exploring stories from the past, stories of migration and transition of cultures in today's society.     I am a neurodivergent artist making art about living with neurodiversity through ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, installation and sculpting. I was born with autism, am dyslexic, have a high IQ, went through an event aged 17 and then another linked event aged 18 that left me with PTSD and that caused developmental issues in my brain leading to the symptoms of ADHD now being prevalent.

    I am a Brighton based artist. A working mum who tries to find a time and space to express herself via art. This is passion that has been put aside and pushed down the long to do list. Putting myself first became very important since last year I had a mental breakdown and panick attack. Recently joined the Brighton Women Artists group whose main aim is to promote women from all background.

    As a child I loved to draw and paint, and as an adult would loved to have had the time to follow it up. However, work and family kept me busy. When I retired I promised myself I would join an art class and take it seriously. Though I don't hold a degree, I am still being very well taught, by excellent professional teachers .,so you are never too old to learn about something you love doing.
