Carla Hixon Shropshire, United Kingdom
I am a deaf artist, based on the Welsh /Shropshire Boarder. I have a studio at a disused coal mine in Bershram Wrexham. I have also studied art at Wrexham University. My work has been exhibited through out North Wales and Shropshire. As a person who grew up with with very little hearing, I turned to painting and drawing at an early age.
I enjoy using all mediums and often make sketches and use Gouache/acrylics to colour them. I then make the pictures in oils, using oil sticks to create a thick impasto. I started off painting animals and since covered a wide range of subjects, from Welsh scenes to Ragdolls. I have just put together a book called Ragdoll Cocktails. I have 2 websites one for the illustration work www.carlahixon.co.uk and www.carlahorlock.co.uk is for the larger oil paintings.
