Claire Cansick Norfolk, United Kingdom
I'm a landscape painter of poignant memories, weather and natural phenomenon using recessive colours created with a limited palette. I live and work in Norfolk, UK.
I explore my place in the world through making landscape particularly by looking at recessive colours and nature's dynamism. Painting has long been about putting a frame around my experience of landscape, its history and impression and our impact. I strive to put more of myself in and the drive to paint comes from expressing, exploration and perception. My experimentation with colour is an instinctive response to my experience where I use a limited palette including a core four colours. Expressive marks using oil sticks and quick movement begins a painting, in order to capture emotion and energy, which is then tamed with detail. I use drawings and my own photos as source material; photos taken them from life, films and TV splicing these elements together which is discarded at a point where the painting and imagination takes over.
