I make landscape paintings of poignant memories and places while concentrating on recessive colour created with a limited palette. I exhibit all over the UK and I am an active member of the artist group The Arborealists. I paint from my studio in my garden.

I love to explore the infinite possibilities offered by landscape particularly by looking at recessive colours and flipping the palette to convey an emotional response, while also striving to capture essence and atmosphere. My experimentation with colour is not a contrived exercise, rather an instinctive response to each scene, illustrating the human experience if you like.

I paint quickly to begin with in order to capture emotion and energy and will then add some detail in varying degrees. I use drawings and my own photos as starting points for paintings, taking them from life, films and TV news reports, or splicing several elements together. Compositionally I like to be travelling around the image, drawing you in, spitting you out.

After completing a BA Fine Art Printmaking at Norwich University of the Arts I continued to paint and draw developing my oil painting skills which are largely self taught through my own practice and experimentation. Oil paint remains my medium of choice and the challenge of developing my technique is endless fun.
