    I am a mixed media artist often working large scale and with a range of materials and techniques and currently exploring ideas around the Art of Disconnection. I am embarking on a residency at Fremantle Arts centre, Western Australia from January - March 2020 to develop these ideas and creative new work in a different cultural space.

    I am a visual artist based in Hastings and have exhibited, participated in and produced work for artists led projects, residencies and commissions in the UK and Europe.     I'm Lucy, an artist based in Derby. I love to paint realistically in oils and acrylic, and dabble in mixed media. Nature is a huge source of inspiration and I also find challenging but rewarding to paint portraits and attempt to capture someone's personality in the painting.

    My practice is one of continuous transition & evolution. My current paintings explore ideas around the passing of time; the repetitive brush marks act as a visual representation of transience - counting out moments one by one. By repeating & building layers of marks, they create a pattern. The pattern, in turn, forms rhythmic motifs and forms that can be read as macro or micro views of the world.

    Exploring the exciting properties of encaustic beeswax has been my passion for several years. First used by Ancient Egyptians as a painting medium, it saw a resurgence last century and has continued to flourish. Still relatively unknown in Europe, but once discovered, never forgotten. When I first took up my brush and dipped it into molten wax and pigment I knew I was hooked!
