Claire Troughton Jewellery Cheshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Claire Troughton's Jewellery is inspired by the fragility of nature, the romanticism of the sea and the mythical stories she heard in childhood. She creates tiny treasures focusing on the little details and patterns of natural forms she notices while walking her beloved dog. Working in silver and gold she aims to produce pieces which are easy to wear as well as to admire and love.

Claire's stunning jewellery collections celebrate the sculptural plants and tiny creatures of the great British countryside. She is fascinated by capturing a tiny snap-shot of life; A butterfly gently landing on a flower, the unfurling of a leaf and the fat and furry bumble bees buzzing around in the summer. Using traditional goldsmithing techniques, she translates the delicacy and fleeting beauty of nature into more permanent objects of desire. Through the use of predominantly silver, with touches of gold, a distinctive style has been created.

Originally hailing from Yorkshire Claire has called several cities home. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1995 with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery and Glass. From here she moved to Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter to take part in the Taylor Burgess Fellowship, a year long business mentoring scheme for new graduates. She established her business in 1996 and continued to work from the Jewellery Quarter for a further 9 years before relocating to Chester to be closer to family. This year she will be celebrating 30 years of her jewellery design business. She offers a commissioning service and loves to work with clients on unique engagement and wedding rings.
