Dee Trueman United Kingdom
I discovered sculpture in 2024 and create expressive animal forms, often focusing on endangered species. My work explores fragility, protection and hope, using storytelling in clay to raise awareness and turn survival into purpose.
My practice centres on sculpting animals in clay, capturing small, intimate moments that reveal character, emotion and presence. I’m drawn to the quiet language of posture and gesture – a tilt of the head, a protective stance, a moment of rest – using these details to create pieces that feel alive and relatable.
Much of my work focuses on endangered species. Through these sculptures I explore themes of vulnerability, protection and resilience, encouraging viewers to connect with animals not as symbols, but as individuals worth caring about. By combining tenderness with realism, I aim to spark empathy and awareness for the fragile state of the natural world.
I work primarily in clay, building each piece by hand. I enjoy the immediacy and honesty of the material – every mark records a decision, every surface holds touch. Experimenting with different clays and textures allows me to balance fine detail with a sense of warmth and life.
Sculpture came to me later than expected and has become both purpose and voice. What began as a personal turning point has grown into a dedicated practice: creating thoughtful, story-led work that invites people to pause, feel and protect what might otherwise be lost.
