    Alison Lowry is a visual artist based in Saintfield, Northern Ireland. Her ground breaking work, ‘(A)Dressing our hidden truths’, shown at the National Museum of Ireland, (2019- present), was one of the first acknowledgements of the Magdalene Laundries presented in an Irish Institution. The Museum subsequently purchased the exhibition for their permanent collection

    I am an artist with northern roots but based in Hackney. I completed a BTEC Foundation in Art & Design at Kendal College (2002), a Fine Art Certificate at Leeds University School of Fine Art and Cultural Studies (2004) and a BA in Interdisciplinary Art & Design at Leeds College of Art & Design.     I am by definition an abstract artist who mainly specialises in painting. I use acrylic paint and mixed media to create my artworks, typically on large abandoned photographs, paper or canvas. The general theme behind my work is rooted in environmental issues and explores the contrasts between a natural existence and a synthetic environment that many of us find ourselves living in.
