I make moving tableaux that incorporate, sound, song, performance and film. I graduated with an MA from Central Saint Martins in 2017 with a distinction. My most recent work which was part of the year long Lifeboat residency with Artquest and ACAVA, involved a durational piece, where I set myself  a rule  to work on a new idea every visit to the studio.

Having had a long break from creative work I have now returned to my practice. I work in a range of media .... mainly drawing .... on card, paper, wood and ceramics. In 2018 I completed an installation called The Tea Garden comprising drawings on 100 reclaimed plates. In 2019 I have been working both in monochrome and colour exploring my perennial theme of the Sacred Imagination.

www.mariaemilov.net I explore the vibrant texture of the image and painting. I feel captivated by the interference of the past and the different cultures in human life. My hope is that a work of Art could guide us a step further in the no man’s land of our past, acquired knowledge and realities check. Within Art, we are entering a powerful intellectual and emotional path in our communication.

I'm a writer, art historian (leeds university (jt hons) art history / english literature) and sculptor. I try to capture a little of the human condition through the re-interpretation of my raw materials - driftwood and unloved / unwanted furniture and other manufactured objects - exposing the grace and wonder of reason, movement, emotion, endeavour and the futility of many of our preoccupations.
