Emma Watson Dumfriesshire, United Kingdom
I have been a painter for over 30 years. My work has evolved over time. My artwork can be seen as the chronology of my life. Art has been a creative space where I can let go of emotions buried deep inside that words alone can't express. I am never conscious of what will come onto the canvas; I experience life through this lens. I am fascinated with this hidden world I carry.
My artistic practice has evolved over time. My art started when I had a major operation, and I felt my body was stuck in a past form. I painted to release emotions, and I was often struck by what lay hidden inside me. Life presents all of us with suffering, joy, and pain. We all navigate this life, searching for our sense of self; sometimes we get lost along the way, and for me, it feels like my soul weeping. To understand my hidden world, I completed an MSc in Mindfulness Meditation at the University of Aberdeen in 2025 to delve deeper into my subconscious. When I paint, it feels like meditation: my self becomes nothingness, with no name, no title, no qualifications, like a space of energy flowing into the world, with no lines defining where my body ends and the world begins. I let the paintbrush move where it wants to go. If another soul in the world purchases my art, I like to think that my paintings have somehow touched another soul's subconsciousness, and that fills me with joy.
Some collectors will know me from my previous Art name, Emma Visca
