Frances Day Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
I make artists' books. My work is narrative based: I am inspired by stories, thoughts and ideas that I like to interpret in book form so that the structure and content of the book are symbiotic. Sometimes I also create textile pieces incorporating mixed media and embroidery.
I am an artists' book-maker, and have been working in this field for over ten years - previously I was a textile artist. By education I am a physicist, and my previous career was in computing, and much of my artwork is inspired from these backgrounds. Paper is, after all, a textile, and I love using manipulation and construction techniques to create novel book-like structures. My books always have content, and are often concerned with the natural and scientific worlds, and I use digital artwork and photography a lot, as well as drawing and stitch. I am a member of Stroud Artists' Books and The BookBand collaborative group. I have exhibited widely at artists' book fairs such as BABE, Edinburgh Book Arts, PAGES, Society of Bookbinders Book Arts, Notts Book Arts and many others. My work has been bought by collectors, libraries and contemporary art museums nationally and internationally.
