Galina Stefanova London, United Kingdom
I am an artist, based in South East London. I have taken part in local and international exhibitions, and my artwork is owned by private collectors in the UK and Europe. My paintings are inspired by nature of the everyday life that surrounds us. Most of my ideas for landscapes come from beautiful parks and gardens in London. My preferred medium is oil on canvas.
My paintings are inspired by nature of the everyday life that surrounds us. There is an element of realism in them, with a twist of my inside world. Most of my ideas for landscapes come from beautiful parks and gardens in London. Places are important; they are often connected to precious memories of lovely time, spent with beloved people. Sometimes however, just a crooked tree, a piece of rock or a particular nuance of colour on the grass under the sunlight can awake powerful memories. The objects in my paintings are not indifferent. They tell stories about stillness and constant movement, about pleasure and perseverance, and about impossible situations becoming reality. Through making art I explore my inner world: feelings of freedom or restriction to it; joy or uneasiness; peace or struggle. In my searches I have been influenced by psychological and psychotherapeutic ideas about the unconscious world, which colours one's thoughts, feelings, decisions and acts.
My preferred medium is oil on canvas. I work in semi-transparent layers in an attempt to enrich and deepen the colour. Oil painting is a traditional medium, which I use to communicate personal thoughts and feelings. My intention and hope is that my work convey a multi-layered meaning, and that transformation happens in viewers' eyes every time they approach it.
