    Sophie Hannah Walker is a mixed media contemporary artist who has been practicing and exhibiting for over 30 years. Currently her work is about 'The Art of Feeling Better' which is a combination of the therapeutic effects on the artist when creating work and making canvases designed to have a subliminal positive effect on the viewer. Sophie was shortlisted for the Royal Academy in 2019 .

    I design and make mixed media jewellery from my workshop in Bingley, West Yorkshire. I work predominantly in silver but like to combine other, found materials to my work to add colour and interest.     Ex Army Father of two beautiful girls and I work as a HGV driver in the UK. I got into art literally by accident, after a work place accident and recovering at home ,I took up pyrography to take my mind off the recovery. Since then and work permitting I do my art when I can. Only having weekends off from the road I love to dive into a piece for hours on end, the smell and sound is fantastic.

    Every artwork is an invitation to pause. I don’t create paintings simply to be looked at. I create spaces to be entered. Mixed media, conceptual artist exploring emotional memory through textured abstraction, found objects and sculptural surfaces. Through painting, photography, travel or writing, create layered works that invite viewers to slow down, look deeper and discover what often unseen.

She completed a BA(Hons) Design: Ceramics Arts Degree from Staffordshire University in 1998 and works from both her ceramics studio and a painting studio at Creative Spin Studios, Leigh.
