Hannah Griffiths North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Developing ceramicist based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, working across sgraffito, handbuilding, and layered underglaze. My practice spans coastal-inspired vessels and carved, wall-mounted birds and fish, exploring the Scarborough coastline through form, surface, and pattern.
Alongside this, I make flat, carved ceramic birds and fish — goldfinches, magpies, blue tits, and shoals of decorative fish — each piece built up with incised feather or scale detail and finished in hand-painted glaze. These sit in dialogue with the vessel work, bringing a more playful, illustrative sensibility to the same coastal and natural themes. I’m developing a commercial strand of work as ceramics becomes an increasingly central part of my professional life, sitting alongside my work as a primary school teacher. I’m mentored by ceramicist Katie Braida, and I’m currently building toward exhibition-ready work and expanding my studio capacity to support that growth.
