  Back to profiles

Josh is a kiln-formed glass artist based in North Yorkshire who specialises in vitrigraph murrine — a traditional Italian technique reinterpreted through contemporary processes. Blending precision with experimentation, his work explores the relationships between light, pattern, and form, resulting in one of a kind glass vessels and wall hangings.

I have always been drawn to the mesmerising beauty of glass and the endless possibilities it offers. My work is primarily focused on creating intricate designs and patterns using murrine, originally a traditional Italian hot glass-making technique, adapted to be made using a vitrigraph kiln.

My process involves pulling molten layers of stacked glass from a vitrigraph kiln into glass rods, which are then sliced into delicate cross-sections, and arranged in a multitude of designs. Using multiple hot kiln and coldworking process, these are then turned into luminous vessels and wall hangings.
