Jelena Havelka West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Jelena Havelka is an abstract painter and printmaker based in Leeds. She holds a PhD in Psychology, and her art education comes from residencies and workshops with artists and printmakers in Yorkshire. Her work is grounded in a concept of embodiment, translating felt experiences into textured surfaces that echo the physicality of emotion.
Jelena's curiosity about the relationship between colour, emotion, language and memory informs her creative approach. Grounded in the concept of embodiment, her practice translates invisible lived experiences into textured surfaces that echo the physicality of emotion. Her process embraces the physical act of making, allowing gesture, texture and colour to carry emotional meaning. For Jelena, each painting begins a conversation with the viewer, inviting them to draw on empathy and their own memories and associations to read the work in a language that speaks to them. In the inner spaces where we often struggle to put what we feel in words, her work offers a visual path into those unspoken places that need to be connected with. She has exhibited widely in group exhibitions across Yorkshire and recently held her first solo exhibition. Her work is held in private collections throughout Europe.
