I am a screen print artist using slow stitch, to highlight the bold shapes in my designs which are inspired by the world around me. I used a vibrant colour palette, layering shapes and colours changing the dynamic of the piece.
I have recently completed an FdA Textiles Foundation course, returning to my love of textiles after doing my degree 30 years ago. Through the course I was able to experiment with different media, finding that my real passion was screen printing and slow stitch. I love lifting the screen up never quite knowing what it's going to reveal, seeing how colours change with layering and shapes interact with each other. I use bold shapes and contrasting colours in my work, I particularly enjoy using complementary colours giving greater impact. I am inspired by the world around me, finding inspiration from holidays, days out and my garden. I am conscious of the impact I have on the environment with my work, using repurposed material or dead stock fabric to print onto, giving it a new lease of life rather than it ending up in land fill.
