RONIS VARLAAM United Kingdom
For the last few years, I have tried to paint in a way that no other artist paints. I do not see the point of painting in a similar way to other artists. For THE NATURE OF THINGS series, I have found a new way of applying paint to figurative paintings. In the MEMORY AND DESIRE series I paint initially conventionally, but then cover the picture with a monochrome colour.
I have studied filmmaking at the London Film School and I have Produced and Directed several documentaries, mainly for Channel 4. Gradually my interests moved to art in general and now my practice includes painting, photography, videos and conceptual art. But I am primarily a painter. I do not have a studio because I prefer to work from home. This enables me to work late, sometimes up to 2 o'clock and then go straight to bed. I am obsessed with painting and go to galleries as often as I can.. I have taken part in more than 40 exhibitions and have been featured in more than 20 publications. I have been included in the Jerwood Drawing Prize Finalists' Exhibitions, Creekside Open, Discerning Eye, National Open Art and at the Royal Watercolour Society, the Florean Museum in Romania, Melina Mercouri Hall Nicosia, Scope Art in Miami and at events at the Venice Biennale and the Louvre.
