MOSAICNMIXEDMEDIA by Jane Walters-Morris Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

I originally trained as a ceramic designer with a BA (hons) from Loughborough. I had my range of tableware in a number of specialist interior shops but more recently I have been working in mixed media and mosaic. I live in Nottinghamshire at the edge of Sherwood Forest. The main theme of my work has always been to question our concept of ‘taste’ - what we find esthetic and valuable and why.

I work exclusively with vintage China. The idea of recycling unwanted items which have previously been treasured really appeals to me. I am also interested in objects we regard as amulets, charms, milagros. I make winged, pierced and crowned hearts often with personal messages. I also use skulls, often cast in resin and sometimes the real thing, giving these pieces a new life and value.
