    Based in North Wales UK, I am a professional illustrator and children's book author, who studied illustration as my first degree.     A figurative artist, I work in various mediums but predominantly in acrylic and oils and create artwork that is representational, sensitive and spiritual expressed through colour, form, line, and texture.     I am an artist based in Leeds. The concept of drawing is the subject of my work, focusing on the crucial role of materiality within an essential language of drawing.     My mixed-media practice is influenced by science and often draws inspiration from my Dutch/Brazilian heritage. It aims to encourage the viewer to question knowledge and value systems by teasing their cognitive senses. Since graduating from Goldsmiths in 2004 I have exhibited in galleries, museums and alternative venues across the UK and done residencies in France, Holland and Finland.

    After a long career in the arts, Fran is now based in North Cornwall and has returned to painting. She has been a professional artist since 2020. Lockdown provided an opportunity to deepen her practice with online tutors and she completed a year-long in person course at Newlyn School of Art in 2023.
