  Back to profiles

Based in the UK East Midlands, I became a full time artist in 2019. Semi abstract in nature, my work combines a fine art background and a long held fascination with wood in all forms. Sustainability underpins my practice; resource management and contributing to art communities is very important to me. I consistently exhibit in UK galleries and have collectors across the UK, Europe and US.

I create new art from old wood.

I deeply respect wood as a living thing, its vital role in our eco-system and in human history. All my substrates are reclaimed wood: salvage, vintage, well-loved, pre-loved, abandoned, each piece has its own character and story to tell. In carefully sourcing and restoring wood the natural beauty and age-old marks on each piece are revealed: worn, weathered, patterned and textured. I work in series responding to these marks exploring a concept, question or fascination surrounding the precarious relationship between humans and the forces of nature, and our human identity connects with our planet.

My process about maximising inspirations and energy and seizing serendipity - exploring and manipulating the materials I use; it is very much is a conversation or even a dance between me, the wood, the paint /media. Light, motion and texture are key elements of my work, and as well as utilising wood, I combine other found elements adding dimension, depth and sometimes the unexpected. As a result, my pieces can be 2 or 3D, interactive and of varying scale.

Working sustainably is fundamental to my practice , I work mostly in my outdoor studio in fresh air and daylight, ensuring my processes are as sustainable and carbon neutral as possible.
