Jo Walton North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Jo creates abstract sea/colour-scapes focusing on horizons, using gold, silver, copper metal-leaf, oil-paint, playing with rust and verdigris on plaster and wooden panels. Her work is inspired by extensive travel - sailing in her twenties delivering yachts, and her childhood years living in Australia. 20x20cm to 120x120cm.

I'm a BA Fine Art graduate from Bradford University 2002 and now have my own art studios in Fossgate York.

My work is initially inspired by horizons, seas and big skies which I experienced growing up in the red land of Australia, and by sailing oceans in my 20's, working on yachts. Now I have a fascination with metals in their own right.

I paint on metal leaf and combine rusted metal , copper verdigris, gold metal leaf, with a skyscape painted in oils, onto ply cradles, which are 3 cm deep. The work is often unframed and ranges from 40 x40 cm to 120 x 120 cm

I also create prints from rusted metal from 8 - 80 cm and small oil paintings, both on paper.
