Joy Bowhay is an artist living amongst the North Yorkshire Dales. Her main genre is landscape painting. She creates a sense of place within ethereal worlds, inspired by the countryside and nature that capture her imagination. Painting in an intuitive style, she connects to her emotions and subconscious, while remaining attentive to tone, colour, composition, and the wildness of the land.
Joy Bowhay works in many differing mediums, using mixed media, oils, inks, acrylic, enamel and including plein air sketching. Joy describes herself as a semi abstract artist being inspired by a sense of her own world but also being influenced by the environment and landscape surrounding her and film, novels , and poetry . She loves colour whilst paying attention to tone, value and composition. She has been painting and attending workshops and is at City Lit having just completed an advanced art development course . She is now completing an advanced painting course over a year. She has attended ongoing art workshops but is now mainly working in the studio. This year was was chosen as a Wildcard in Landscape Artist of the Year and was painting at Brimham Rocks. She exhibits locally but has also the Acrylic Painting Quest for Fire has been accepted at Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. She continues to paint and is active on instagram. Historical artists such as Turner, Nash, the impressionists like Monet and more contemporary artists like Katherine Holmes have greatly inspired her work
