I am a contemporary Textile Artist and Feltmaker living and working from my home studio in the Peak District. I take inspiration from forms and textures in the natural world in particular pebbles and found objects gathered on coastal walks and the hills, edges, weather and changing light and colours of the Peak District.
As a feltmaker, I aim to give my felt a contemporary look with a fine finish and continually challenge myself to explore just what I can make from a few fibres, soap and water. I especially enjoy making 3 dimensional vessels, each one is totally unique.
As an embroiderer, I use both hand and free machine embroidery techniques in my practice often making my own backgrounds to stitch into from paper or fibres or hand dyed or painted fabrics.
Sustainability is an important part of my practice and I reuse, recycle and repurpose as much as I possibly can so as little as possible goes to waste. I consider the impact my practice has on the environment whether this is in the materials I use, the amount of energy my crafts consume or the tools I require to make my work. Wool is a perfect material to work with for sustainability, it is readily available, it regenerates, it is fully compostable and biodegradable, it’s an incredibly versatile, tactile and beautiful material to work with.
I make a range of functional and decorative products from wall hung artworks to vessels, vases, covered sketchbooks, brooches and bags along with ranges of seasonal gifts. I design and make all my work so each item is totally unique.
