Lisa McEleny Devon, United Kingdom
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Devon. After a career in nursing, I returned to education completing a BA (Hons) in Craft and Material Practices. I work with home-grown materials such as chia and wheatgrass to create delicate root structures, fragile ceramics and statement jewellery.
My work explores themes of ageing and decay, reflecting on the transient nature of human existence. A previous career as a nurse, where experiencing the fragility of old age was commonplace, deeply shaped my fascination with ephemerality. I draw continual inspiration from the poetic parallels between the human form and the natural world, both marked by cycles of growth, decay, and renewal.
Central to my work is a home-grown element which is manipulated and merged with more traditional materials to create ethereal root forms, delicate ceramic works, and expressive statement jewellery. Growing my own materials shapes my design process and fosters a symbiotic, mindful practice that captures nature in a state of transformation.
