Lesley Wood is an award winning mixed media textile artist with a Fine Art degree. Her hand embroidered work has been widely exhibited in the U.K. and abroad. Her hand embroidery often has a narrative being created from reclaimed cloth, vintage domestic fabrics and ephemera. Subject matter includes portraits, figures and birds. She accepts commissions and delivers talks and workshops
Lesley Wood has an interest in and uses domestic everyday textiles to create her artwork. Vintage fabrics often bear the marks of previous owners and makers holding memories and having emotional connections. By hand stitching she merges the traditional with the contemporary to create new narratives from the biography of the cloth. Lesley Wood exhibits her work widely and has received a number of awards including the Hand & Lock 0pen Textile Art Prize 2021, first prize in the Madeira Threads Competition 2023 and the Embroiderers’ Guild Margaret Nicholson Award also in 2023. Lesley Wood is a member of the Embroiderers‘ Guild, The Society for Embroidered Work, East Durham Artist Network and local textile groups. She accepts commissions and delivers talks and workshops.
