Linda Quartermaine West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
I am an artist based in West Yorkshire and Iam an emerging artist. I have always had a passion for wildlife and wildlife conservation. So, it makes sense that I would naturally turn to wildlife art. My style is hyper-realistic with an attention to detail. I have a collaboration with the wildlife charity, Liberian Chimpanzee Rescue and Rehabilitation Charity and 2 other Primate Charities.
I have permission from Liberian Chimpanzee Rescue and Rehabilitation, Borneo Urangatan Sanctuary and the Bonobos Charity in the Congo to use photographs on their websites for my paintings and then I give them a % of my sale price for their charities.
I chose 1 of their photographs and the 1st thing I do is a detailed drawing in Graphite, the reason for this is that it gives me my tones and a feel for the final painting. I then chose which paper will suit the painting. I then draft the painting out, put in my background and my underpainting following my photo and drawing. I start with the eyes and then work outwards so that I am not smudging what I have already done.
It takes a lot of concentration so I paint in 2hr slots, take regular breaks and start again after a coffee.
My focus for this year will be Orangutans, however, I do other willdlife paintings that are not for charities including Big Cats.
