Louise Ann Wright South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
I am a British artist based in Yorkshire, working in painting, drawing, and print with a focus on sustainable colour. During my MA in Fine Art at Falmouth University, I researched sustainable colour, investigating its creation and use while sharing stories connected to the land.
My process-driven practice centres on painting and drawing with a strong focus on sustainable materials. I combine mark-making and fine lines with layered washes of pigment, allowing paintings to develop gradually over weeks. The flowing lines and blooms of colour emphasise the unique characteristics of the materials as they interact on the surface. Recent projects have emphasised collaboration with heritage organisations, which is becoming an important aspect of my practice. These collaborations allow me to create encounters that engage viewers with forgotten narratives, often concerning specific places and sustainability. On an intimate scale, my work reflects a fascination with the growth and spread of organic forms. Questions around obsession are explored through drawing as a means to express and deconstruct my anxiety.
