Mila Romans West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
A Ukrainian British professional visual artist. Her interdisciplinary experimentations, diverse education, and wide range of skills allow her to explore the boundaries of each medium and discipline, investigate concepts of identity freely, perception of things and time, and body-mind relations, change, and environment.
I am a full-time visual artist, designer, and photographer. My formative years and photo art instruction were in Russia and Ukraine under the influence of local artists and graduates of the Surikov and Stroganov institutes and later in the New York Institute of Photography. Establishing myself as a designer, professional portrait artist, and photographer, I exhibited widely, became a member of several art societies, and received several awards. Moving to the UK in 2012, I have presented several projects in York, including: "First Impressions, a series of Land and “Cityscapes”, a video-art portrait project titled "Good Citizens of the Small Apple- York: Conversations." and a mixed media project "Root & Moods" I went on to co-found ‘The Hungry Artist’ - Art & Coffee House in York, a contemporary art space and cultural hub. My current art practice`s evolving within two art processes: very tactile three-dimensional fine and decorative art and digital photo art - these two streams are often interconnected - a mash-up of photography, painting, with layers of textures like imprinted memories and dreams colliding in profusion. For example, my fine art photography and painting are incorporated in my Lit Art (a series of handcrafted lamps). Often, my painting transforms into sculptural work, and fine art photography printed on cloth adds a new quality and dimensionality to the concept behind the work. A lifelong interest in mind-body interactions, the interplay between tactile, non-tactile, organic, non-organic, neuroscience and surroundings, as well as personal experience, encourages me to convey my emotions and explore my ideas through experimentation across different art disciplines such as dance, painting, photography, sculpture, and video.
