Glynis Lamond Surrey, United Kingdom
Glynis Lamond is a multidisciplinary artist who recently studied Drawing at post graduate level at University of Arts (Wimbledon). Her MA in drawing drew on her appreciation of found man made objects in the environment which embody past memories, emotions, stories or forgotten crafts or ways of working. These objects are reworked to give them new life and meaning.
The everyday inspires the current work of Glynis Lamond, she is pulled towards the unnoticed in our familiar everyday environment; things that often go unseen and taken for granted by society. Lamond’s recent piece 'Helen's Chair' is the third in a series of relief sculptures which reflect on memories of life before mass production. Glimpsing into another time, when furniture was hand-crafted, the piece exposes remnants of a different society. The historical nature of hand crafted furniture is juxtaposed with the present-day multitude of mass produced objects. The work doesn’t have an explicit message but by transforming the chair into a piece of artwork it is hoped that the viewer will be prompted to reflect on the past in the present, and the everyday.
