Jess Shaw North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Artist Printmaker, Jess Shaw, transforms details of the North Yorkshire landscape into contemporary artwork. Inspired by the influence of ice & water on our environment, she combines different print media such as monoprint, screen print, woodcut with mark-making, collage and painting to explore notions of continuity & transience in relation to our temporal human experience.

Based in the countryside bordering the North York Moors, Artist Printmaker Jess Shaw combines different print media such as monoprint, screen print, woodcut with mark-making, collage & painting, to explore notions of continuity & transience, individuality & interconnectedness, in relation to the human experience of the natural world.

The mysterious beauty of unique ephemeral ice-patterns formed overnight in winter, are re-imagined in paint & print to celebrate the innate creativity of the natural world. They become reminders of the fragility & singularity of life, each one spontaneously appearing for a few hours before melting. A reminder of our connection to the cycles of life when we take the time to slow down, connect to the landscape & ourselves through observation & listening. She asks us to rediscover our internal and external senses, to notice details and to hear the quiet voices leading us on a journey of reconnection with our true nature.
