Oil painter based near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. I paint the landscapes and light I know from daily walks - woodland, coastal, country paths - always chasing the moment extraordinary light does something worth holding onto. Fine Art graduate returning to practice after 28 years. Original oils and limited edition giclée prints available.

I work in oils, painting the landscapes on my doorstep in North Yorkshire - the woods, paths and coastline I know from daily walks, usually with my dog.

Two things recur in the work I make: paths that lead the viewer into the painting, and extraordinary light. I'm drawn to the moment the sun breaks through a summer canopy, catches bare winter branches, or sits low over a harbour at dusk. I paint the feeling of being in a place when the light does something you want to hold onto, not a literal record of it.

I work from my own photographs and memory, building paintings in layers and letting the paint make its own decisions. Fascinated by the ability of colour to shape experience, I don't use black or ready-mixed green - everything is mixed from a limited palette of primaries and earth colours, which keeps the colour relationships honest across the whole canvas.

My work includes original oil paintings on canvas board and stretched canvas, ranging from intimate studies to larger statement pieces, and limited edition giclée prints of selected works, mounted and ready to frame. All prints are signed and numbered.

I keep returning to the same places. The light is always different.
