Redacted Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
Redacted is an emerging artist born in Rochdale, based in Manchester. Blending theory with pop culture references, Redacted creates bold, visually striking work that invites audiences in, exploring "the unseen, unspoken and unexpected stories that lie beneath and between written words”. A rejection of elitism and perfectionism ,whilst making space for wider engagement with arts and ideas.

A mostly self taught , emerging multidisciplinary artist born in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Presently, based in Manchester City.
Redacted is directly taken from the idea of sensitive details like intelligence sources, military plans, private citizen information, being allowed for the public release of documents while maintaining confidentiality from the public . Thus increasing surveillance . A belief of over socialisation being a continuation of surveillance culture is prominent theme in the works . Attempting to communicate to the rejection of the expectation and entitlement to people’s privacy that exists in contemporary society.
An argument can be made that is in-fact a form of hostility, social invasion and frankly, is overbearing. An invasion of the artist’s life often occurs. My lived experience plays a central role in my work, feeling art is inescapable from the self.
I understand how ominous and cold the name “Redacted” can come off , so feel free to refer to me as “Bunny X”.
A kaleidoscopic portal to the past, present and future of marginalised narratives. Capturing the beauty that can be found within the pain and pleasure across queerness , disability and the black diaspora. Their work pulls from Afro surrealism and Afro pessimism.
Storytelling is equipped to express sociopolitical commentary and cultural criticism. By combining archival material, surrealism and internet and pop culture, the work is explicit in its cultural criticisms. These themes they use. are often, inverted, commentary is made in manner that has a diversity in its intention and direction.
Wishing to tell a new story, building new worlds , without forgetting the past one.
My work spans across a range of mediums including : sculptures, textiles, digital art, painting, performance art, dance , creative writing, photography and photo editing.
