Mandy Segal Surrey, United Kingdom
My work explores the inner world of memories, emotions and conflict.
My work explores childhood experiences and troubled family life.
I create artwork which explores my childhood emotional memories that seep in to my adult world - memories of sadness, fear, anger, loneliness, vulnerability, and sometimes happy memories. Sometimes memories in my work can be whole scenes or clusters of different memories in one art work, also fragments of one memory.
In my most recent artworks I use gas masks to cover-up my characters' faces. The masks are being used for a number of reasons - to represent protection from showing emotions, concealment from the outside world or disconnection from others.
Multiples explores my childhood and teenage years. Each character in the paintings are me at different ages with different emotions and memories.
